 故事發生在1977年2月8日，圍繞一名44歲的前房地產開發商Tony Kiritsis展開。他用槍劫持了貸款公司總裁Richard O. Hall，并在其身上綁了一個“死亡開關”，以此脅迫這位總裁在幾近零度的天氣里當著警察和記者的面穿過市中心的街道。
